The Provincial Government of Bohol posthumously awards Sierra Bullones Native for reaching 100 years old through the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Sierra Bullones Municipal Hall.

Born on May 5, 1922, Rafaela Juyad Curay-Macalam was a resident of Purok 4, Canlangit, Sierra Bullones. She was described as a loving mother with a gentle personality by her two daughters, Urbana Salingay and Julita Macalam who both received the cash gift on behalf of their deceased mother.

“She was such a fun woman. She loved to sew and garden during her past time. She was so gentle to us growing up. You will never see her berate us or hit us when we misbehaved,” Julita Macalam said.

Rafaela was the last of the nine centenarians who received a cash gift from PGBh. Under the 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, a Filipino citizen is entitled to receiving 100,000 pesos from the national government and from the Provincial Government when they reach 100 years old. She also received a plaque from Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, and Vice Governor Dionisio Balite for reaching 100 years old on May 5, 2022. Rafaela passed away from a natural cause last September 1, 2022. OPSWD also gave a 10,000 burial assistance to Isidra Raneses Tagcos, a daycare worker from Brgy. Nan-od, Sierra Bullones who died on November 10, 2022.
